New Moon in Aquarius

Today, the lunar cycle rolls the new moon in the sign of Aquarius. Never underestimate the influence from above to below. The energy of a new moon can be as potent as a full.  Aquarius is a fixed air sign. The potential is there for independence and clear/cool-headed thinking. If you feel more curious than usual, ride the wave and see where it takes the thoughts.

This day also begins the Lunar New Year in China. The Year of the Monkey has begun. Monkeys are socially complex and highly evolved animals. They live in tight colonies sometimes marred by messy political shenanigans. They can declare war on other colonies and get into a wicked murderous row. Monkeys are intelligent and clever. The mothers are uncommonly affectionate and tender with their young. So, be aware of boisterous tendencies and the emotions playing a major role in daily life. Group activity takes center stage with unpredictable outcomes. The order of things is sometimes unspoken.

There’s a lot going on in the stars. Enjoy knowing we are a part of it all.

O Karma, Dharma, Pudding and Pie, by P Appleman

O Karma, Dharma, pudding and pie,
gimme a break before I die:
grant me wisdom, will, & wit,
purity, probity, pluck, & grit.
Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind,
gimme great abs & a steel-trap mind,
and forgive, Ye Gods, some humble advice—
these little blessings would suffice
to beget an earthly paradise:
make the bad people good—
and the good people nice;
and before our world goes over the brink,
teach the believers how to think.

Return of the Light ~ Blessed Imbolc

The wheel of the year turns. In the northern hemisphere, the Earth makes a return to the Light. In ancient Ireland, February 1 was celebrated as the beginning of the growing season.

In some old world traditions, Halloween was year’s end; Imbolc, the first day of the new year.

Today is Brigit’s Festival. The bright one shines forth.  Brigit is the goddess of hearth and home. She inspires change and growth. She banishes the dark nights.

On February 2, Candelmas is celebrated. This was the day in ancient Greek mythology, when Persephone returned from Hades to rejoin her mother Demeter on earth. The season of darkness ends. The light returns. A good day to banish the dark places in our hearts and welcome in positive energy.  Light a candle to honor the old ways.

Today is also Groundhog Day. Look out the window. Poor weather foretells a gentle spring and a pleasant summer. Snow today means winter won’t lose it’s grip until mid-April.
